Excerpt from "Dreams worth Believing"

When I arrived to console her, I became the mother, and my mother became the child for the first time in my life. I realized it was necessary to let Mom cry after all she had been through. My friends told me their mothers and fathers would never show so much raw emotion in front of them. To them, an emotional letdown by a parent meant weakness and loss of power. I thought this was stupid. Parents are human, too, with emotions overwhelming them at times. So I looked at it as a chance for me to comfort my parent after all the times I sobbed to Mom about skinned knees, persistent bullies, mean girls, and lost loves of my youth. My mother now leaned on me for strength and solace, and it felt good to be there for her. ~Lydia

Quote by Lydia from "Dreams Worth Believing"

"Yes, Mother, I'm trying hard to believe you and your dreams. But…" I hesitated and then said, "You've always supported me, so it's time I return the favor, even though I think you're crazy!" I laughed.
